Associate Tracker Program

A tracker at this level will:
• Demonstrate competency in wildlife track and sign identification
• Display heightened awareness capability
• Recognize common gait patterns
• Apply basic natural history knowledge to common tracking situations
• Have a solid knowledge of the diverse habitats of San Diego County
• Have participated in a tracking survey gaining practical tracking experience
• Have a good start on in-depth species studies
• Have a very good start toward completion of the Advanced Tracker and Certification program

To earn the WTI Associate Tracker designation you must attend, participate to the best of your ability, and complete the following minimum requirements:

• Track and Sign Dirt Time Sessions: Complete four.
• SDTT Beginning Tracking for Wildlife Surveys Class: Complete one.
• SDTT Intermediate Tracker/Naturalist Class: Complete one.
• Plants and Ecosystems of San Diego County Series: Complete the course of 3 sessions.
• Photography for Trackers Class: Complete one.
• SDTT Quarterly Transect Volunteer: Complete one.
• Focused Species Evening Sessions: Complete four.
• Monthly Assignments (including reading and practical awareness core exercises): Complete four.
• Journals: Complete 15 Tracking Journals

Note: While completion of the Associate Tracker Course is a prerequisite for admission into the Advanced Tracker and Certification Course, each student’s situation and prior accomplishments will be examined for equivalent credit opportunities.

Associate Tracker Course Tuition: $570 *. (See “Payment Options” below, for Pay-In-Advance Discount price).

*Tuition will be adjusted for those with credit for previous equivalent WTI course completion as far back as 2009.  Contact WTI to discuss.

WTI Tracker Program Payment Options

Pay-In-Advance Discounts: Associate Designation (AT1) $495 (Go to Class Sign-up page)

Pay-As-You Go: Associate Designation, full price $570 (Pay prior to each class)

Evaluations: No discounts. You must pay to reserve your spot.

Enrollment Steps: Please follow these simple steps to begin your journey on the path to becoming an expert tracker.

  1. Contact WTI to declare your intent to enroll in the Wildlife Tracker Curriculum Programs and get answers to any questions. WTI will start a student file for you.
  2. Pay tuition using PayPal via the WTI website Class Sign-up page or by check. If you wish to pay-as-you go, you must pay before each class begins, either by PayPal or by check or cash. Arrive early if you plan to pay the day of the class. You can ask about payment or financing arrangements in step.
  3. Confirm your class schedule with WTI: you will be slotted into the curriculum and your class dates and times will be confirmed prior to starting the program.
  4. Show up with a good attitude, prepared, and ready to learn!
